I am a digital marketer, working on online community building, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, TikTok, etc. Everyday, I work extensively on my computer doing a lot of tests and talking with my community on Discord, Twitter, Facebook Groups, etc. Often, I need to create new accounts and test my techniques. Nowadays, 99.9% of the platforms require SMS verification which is the tricky part for me. I can’t have hundreds of sim cards and phones. It is a massive headache, so I often use a site that has phone numbers available online for everybody. They show every SMS number that is available to use online and the service is totally free (you might ask, does a free service really exist? Yes, and I will tell you why later). It means I can register an account using their numbers and test the account however I need to. Note! You should not use these numbers if you are registering for a personal account, as the numbers are public and anybody can use them, but I don’t care, as the accounts are for testing purposes and I close them down after a week.
If you search online for ‘receive SMS online’, ‘temporary phone number’, ‘disposable numbers’, and keywords similar to these, you will find hundreds of services. I must admit most of them are crap and as I have been using them for a very long time, I decided to review them in detail and save you time. I chose the top website which has high numbers of traffic each month (according to Similarweb), and one fresh site so we can compare them.

Let’s start.
I will register with the most common platforms like Instagram, Discord, Twitter, and one non-common service — Yandex. I will review each SMS platform in detail, compare them and give you a conclusion on which service is the best.
Instagram Verification:
AnonymSMS Instagram Verification — It worked ✅
Receive-SMSS.com Instagram Verification — It did not work ❌
I’ve been trying to register with Receive-SMSS, waited for 8+ minutes but no SMS was delivered. As Receive-SMSS has many more numbers available, I tried 3 more and none of them worked.
Either Instagram has the public numbers of Receive-SMSS and does not send SMS to them, or they are just overburned as traffic is huge on Receive-smss.com.
SMS24 Instagram Verification — It did not work ❌
Before starting testing, I must admit that SMS24 has an enormous number of ads. Full-screen ads before entering the site which is quite difficult to cancel, a bunch of ads on the home page, etc. It’s really hard to navigate.
As I started the verification process, a strange error appeared on Instagram, it said the phone number may be incorrect. The number looks ok (+12291331737) but still, I couldn’t move forward.

I inputted the number I chose from the website and kept waiting for the code to complete the verification, but no code appeared on the screen.
In addition to this, the fact that the latest activity that was made from this particular number was made an hour before looks kinda weird to me.
MyTempSMS Instagram verification — It didn’t work ❌
I couldn’t do anything with this one. I’ve been refreshing the page for the code to pop up, but nothing changed.
Receive-sms-free.cc Instagram verification — It didn’t work ❌
Same issue, the same outcome. No SMS was received, therefore verification couldn’t be completed.
Twitter Verification:
AnonymSMS Twitter Verification — It worked ✅
On first try, I thought something was wrong because an error appeared, but it was just saying that the number I chose was already used for a Twitter account, though It didn’t become an issue since AnonymSMS had a variety of numbers for each platform specifically, so I clicked on new numbers, chose the new one and simply it worked perfectly.
Receive-SMSS.com Twitter Verification — It did not work ❌
This service didn’t work for Twitter either. On my first try, it said the number was already taken. I tried another one, waited for more than 5 minutes, and kept clicking on Update Messages as they recommend to do, but the verification code didn’t appear at all.
SMS24 Twitter Verification — It did not work ❌
Same issue with SMS24. Despite inputting the number, waiting, and refreshing the page, I couldn’t receive the SMS.
Receive-sms-online.info Twitter verification — It didn’t work ❌
This one didn’t work either. The reason was the same as with the previous services — waiting for a few minutes, but no code appeared on the screen.
MyTempSMS Twitter Verification — It did not work ❌
There was an Error saying “This phone number is already taken. Please try another one”, so I’ve tried two more, but nothing changed, there was still an error.
Receive-sms-free.cc Twitter verification — It didn’t work ❌
This service didn’t work for Twitter either. I have tried 3 different numbers but neither of them could receive the SMS verification.
Discord Verification
AnonymSMS Discord verification — It worked ✅
It took only 5 seconds to get the code, so I got the account verified faster than ever and it works perfectly
Receive-SMSS.com Discord Verification — It did not work ❌
I inputted the number and waited, but nothing appeared on the screen, so for me, Receive-SMSS didn’t work to verify Discord either
SMS24 Discord Verification — I thought it worked but actually, it did not ❌
With SMS24, It took me a while to get the code and I thought the verification was done.
But after a few hours, when I needed to use my account and checked it out, this is what I got. It still requires verification. I don’t know what’s wrong but it still asks the verification and sms is not delivered on SMS24.
Receive-sms-online.info Discord verification — It didn’t work ❌
Didn’t even have the chance of waiting for a code to appear because Discord kept saying that there was something wrong with the number I chose on Receive-sms-online.info
Though I inputted the number and it looked like everything was fine
This is how it actually ended up — the phone number turned out to be invalid.
MyTempSMS Discord verification — It didn’t work ❌
It felt like Deja Vu, because exactly the same thing happened as last time, “invalid”.

To sum up — No SMS was received.
Yandex Verification
I have decided to try something not super general as Instagram, Discord and others. So I choose Yandex, this is the mail service, which is not used by much people, so if the temporary number service really works, it should work on Yandex definitely!
AnonymSMS Yandex verification — It worked ✅
AnonymSMS has, once again, not disappointed me with Yandex verification.
I received a verification code in a second.
Receive-SMSS.com Yandex Verification — It worked ✅
On this try, Receive-SMSS finally worked. It took a while to receive the SMS but in the end, I got the verification code anyway.
SMS24 Yandex Verification — It didn’t work ❌
SMS24 failed this time as well. I couldn’t receive SMS for Yandex verification because it didn’t work, as was the case with every other online platform I chose for this service.
I tried two numbers. With the first one, an error showed up saying “Invalid phone number format” then I tried another one but the code was nowhere to be seen

Seems like this service doesn’t work properly, there’s something wrong because it didn’t work for Yandex either.

Well, this time things were done within a minute, without any issues along the way.

- The service isn’t high-quality (As you can see it didn’t work even once during this test )

Pros:
- A lot of countries and numbers
Cons:
- Huge number of Ads, hard to navigate.
- No information about numbers, such as when it was added or how many SMS were received.
- The service isn’t high-quality (As you can see it didn’t work even once during this test )

I am happy to have at least one free service which works properly. Without a question, AnonymSMS is the winner. They have got new numbers, filtration on page, all numbers are working etc. You can’t demand more from a free service.
